Max Swindell Obituary

May 30, 2016 - Apr 23, 2015

This obituary is administered by:
Max E. SwindellMay 30, 1929 - April 23, 2015Max E. Swindell, "Aitxitxia", of Nampa, died on April 23, 2015 at home with his family by his side. Even in silence he filled the room with love, hope, and dignity. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Max's life on May 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church (510 W Roosevelt, Nampa 83686). Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com Max was born on May 30 of 1929 in Oxford, Nebraska. Following the unexpected death of his young father, his mother, Dorothy (Wade Swindell), moved her four children to Idaho. Max graduated from Nampa High School in 1947 where he met Blanche Bastida, the love of his life. Their partnership lasted over 65 years. Max and Blanche moved to Glenn's Ferry where he owned and operated a drycleaners. Max became a salesman at Honstead Motor Company in Nampa and eventually co-owner with his brother, Rex. He retired in 1996. Over the years, Max donated countless hours to numerous Nampa community service organizations. Max loved his time in McCall, golfing, skiing at Brundage Mtn., and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his Thursday golf outings with friends and early morning workouts at the Nampa Rec. Center followed by coffee with "the Boys". Max was an avid Bronco Football fan and season ticket holder for over 45 years. He learned to love the Basque Culture and was a member of the Boise and Caldwell Euzkaldunak and was a supporter of the Boise Basque Museum. He was partial to Dixieland Jazz and attended the Sun Valley Jazz Festival for over 20 years with dear friends. His beautifully manicured yard, his patio surrounded by red geraniums, and his handiwork around the house were a tremendous source of pride. For the last 10 years Emi has been his cherished four-legged companion. Max, Emi, and their neighbor, Herb, walked the park every morning - rain or shine. They met new friends, connected with old ones, and continued this routine until the very end. Their time together brought so much joy to all that crossed their path. He is survived by his wife Blanche, children Dan (Suzanne) Swindell, Julie (Steve) McCary, Ann (Mark) Montgomery, Jane (Joe) Freiburger, Marci Swindell, Emi, treasured 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren (soon to be 6), sister Bette Swindell Ogle, brother Rex Swindell (Marleen) and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Orin and Dorothy Swindell, sister Donna Swindell Dunnagan and in-laws Juan & Regina Bastida.A special thanks to: Everyone at MSTI Nampa, especially Dr. L. Fiorentino, Pam and Heather, and Encompass Hospice, especially Steve and Amber. A private family internment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to St. Paul's Church Building Fund (Nampa) and Nampa Salvation Army (who so generously assisted his family as a young child). Rest in peace Max, Dad, Aitxitxia (Cheech)
