Ms. Mattie Arlean Browder, 57, "Pudding" to her mother and "Mattie Pattie" to some, of 1138 W. Wythe Street, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA, surrounded by family and friends.She was born on January 5, 1959, to the late Willie C. Browder and Frances Harrison Browder in Petersburg, Va. Mattie attended Petersburg Schools and graduated from Petersburg High School. She also attended Virginia State College (University) and business school in Richmond, VA.She worked for numerous years with the Electoral Board/Voting in Petersburg, VA, and was readily prepared for this Presidential Election Day.She was a member of First Baptist Church, Harrison Street at a very young age. During her youth she would attend Oak Grove Baptist Church, North Dinwiddie, VA, and continued to do so until her passing.She was employed at the Department of Defense (Bellwood) for fifteen years and currently employed at Exxon in North Dinwiddie, VA.Mattie loved her children, family and friends. She enjoyed preparing big meals for gatherings and watching the cooking channels, couponing and driving around. She liked her home filled with laughter and noise along with "good food" as she would say.She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Viola Harrison and Mattie Browder; grandfather, Charlie Lee Gholson; and several aunts, uncles and other family members, too numerous to name.Mattie leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Frances H. Browder of Petersburg, VA; two devoted children, Rashena Browder (Lavar) and Shadel Browder (Samone); two beloved granddaughters, Shaliyah and Lauren; two adopted daughters and adopted grandchildren, Tequelia Harrison (Kelis and Keyania) and Jenelle Winfield (Jada); four brothers, Kevin Jones (Demetria), Tony Browder, Willie Browder and Heath Mason of Petersburg, VA; two aunts, Bertha Crenshaw and Emma "Baby Sis" Tucker; two uncles whom she loved dearly and sincerely, John H. Harrison (Alice) of Petersburg, VA, and James A. Harrison (Anne) of Sutherland, VA; two great-aunts, Catherine Williams of Sutherland, VA, and Gladys Hill of Petersburg, VA; two very devoted friends, George T. Leonard and family and Gary L. Saunders and family; three sister-girlfriends, Michelle Giles and family, Brenda Jones and Phillistine Morgan (Chuck) and family; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, too numerous to name. Please remember that she loved each of you and that being with you, it really made a difference in her life.Services for Ms. Mattie A. Browder will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Leroy A. Cherry, pastor, officiating, and Pastor John F. Phillips of Oak Grove Baptist Church, North Dinwiddie, VA, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.The family will assemble 2 p.m. the day of the service at 1138 W.
