Born August 19, 1936, in Astoria, Queens, and raised in Woodside, he attended Bryant High School and worked for the New York Telephone Company.  On October 19, 1968, he married Cathy, the love of his life. They resided in Auburndale and raised their son, Bill.Marty proudly served in the U.S. Army, meeting his life-long friends, Grizzle and Greed, while stationed in Germany during the Cold War.  That is where he developed his love for the mountains, hiking, photography and traditional German culture.

Marty had many wonderful moments in his life. The three most outstanding of these are in 1968 he married the love of his life Cathy, in 1969 when he became the proud father to Bill and then doubled his joy in 1993 when his grandson, Seamus, was born. Nothing made him happier than his family.  He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, cigars, was a proud member of the American Legion Post 510 and the Bayside Historical Society at Fort Totten, and was an avid fan of Darth Vader, the Amazin’ Mets and Joe Willie Namath’s New York Jets.

Marty will be missed for his laughter and bright spirit and the way that he always made life a little nicer.

A memorial service will be arranged at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marty’s name through the John P.
