Parsons, Marteen L.,age 87, died on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville, Ky.Marteen is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Parsons, of Louisville, her sister, Betty L. Shipp, of Louisville, and her nieces, Patty Malone, of Louisville, and Jennifer Riley, of Swansea, IL.; as well as, great-niece, Ashely S. Riley, of Swansea, IL., and great-nephew, Patrick J. Malone, of San Rafael, CA.Marteen was born on May 30, 1929, in Kettle Island, Ky., to parents Fred and Mary Locke. She graduated from Bell County High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Neale A. Parsons on June 8, 1947. They had one child, Diana L. Parsons, on November 30, 1948. Both Marteen and Neale attended and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.After graduation, Marteen and Neale moved to Louisville, Kentucky. Marteen accepted a position as a teacher with the Jefferson County School System. Marteen's educational focus was at the Elementary Level, primarily Second through Sixth Grade. Marteen taught at Gideon Shryock, Gilmore Lane and Greathouse Elementary Schools. Marteen retired as a Professional Educator after 30 years in 1978.Marteen was a loving mother and wife. She was a socially active woman deeply involved in the Teachers Association, the Republican Party, and DAR. She enjoyed entertaining, music, reading and bridge. Her family will always remember Marteen as the "keeper" of the family photographs and stories. The Memorial Service to celebrate Marteen's life is scheduled for December 3, 2016 at 2:00, at Arch L.
