This obituary is administered by:
Marlene MalinOak View, CAMarlene Malin 65, passed away February 3, 2016 after a long struggle with leukemia.Marlene was the beloved wife of 39 years to her husband Tim Peddicord and mother of sons David and Aaron.Marlene was born on September 12, 1951 in Champaign, Illinois to Bernard and Anne Malin. She grew up in Indiana but was happy to escape the cold winters when she moved to San Pedro, California in 1969. Marlene went to UCLA and then graduated from California State University with a degree in Microbiology. She later earned a master's degree from California State University Dominguez Hills. After completing her master's degree, she became a medical technologist and worked at Ventura Community Hospital and Ojai Community Hospital. In 1977 she met her future husband Tim Peddicord in Santa Barbara. Marlene and Tim went on to enjoy a very happy marriage and were very devoted to each other. They loved to travel and went to mainland Mexico for their wedding. Over the years they visited Canada, the Virgin Islands, Australia, New Zealand, the Hawaiian Islands, and their beloved Ireland many times.Marlene was a highly intelligent and well informed woman who was not afraid to express herself. She had a love of reading literature and was constantly learning new things. She and her husband lived on the Island of Kauai for two years. Marlene loved the ocean and during her time in Kauai she paddled for the Hanalei Canoe Club. An excellent swimmer she would also frequently go bodysurfing with her husband. Marlene was a fine horsewoman and loved to ride her quarter horse Kirby. She was also a gifted artist and potter and was keenly interested in the arts. She had a terrific work ethic which she passed on to her two sons David and Aaron. She had a great sense of humor and she always liked to get the last word - in fact, so much so that it eventually turned into a running gag between her and her husband. Family was extremely important and she was an incredible mother to her sons whom she loved and supported passionately. Marlene had an almost magic touch with babies and was often able to calm down upset little ones. Her husband Tim said that she was the most considerate and thoughtful woman he had ever known. She was a loyal friend who loved to entertain family and friends with her excellent cooking. Like her father, Marlene had a joy of life and was always planning for her next new adventure. Marlene leaves behind her husband Tim Peddicord, her two sons David and Aaron, sister Ethel Quimby, nephews Sean and Brian Peddicord, and nieces Julianne Quimby and Kellen Peddicord. A wake will be held in her honor at the Harbor Restaurant in Santa Barbara on Saturday, February 18 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.Arrangements were under the direction of JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
