Feb 15, 1924 - Feb 22, 2008

This obituary is administered by:
Marie "Louise" Lancaster Snell, age 84, passed away February 22, 2008, at home in the presence of her loving family, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Louise was born on February 15, 1924, to Dennis and Mary Lyons, who were stationed at the British military base in Trimulgherry, India. In 1928, her family transferred to London, England. Louise lived in London during WWII and the bombing of London. She and her family lived in a bomb shelter for approximately one year during this war. Louise attended school in London and during WWII she was conscripted into the Land Army where she worked on farms tending fields and caring for sheep. Louise met Paul Lancaster, an American G.I. in Penzance, and they married in London on April 11, 1944. She sailed to the United States via the Queen Mary in 1946, landed in New York, and traveled by train to St. Paul, Kansas, where she and Paul lived for ten years. Five of their six children were born there. They then moved to Ellensburg, Washington, where their sixth child was born. In 1966 Louise went to work at Central Washington University in the food service department. She worked as a food service supervisor at Tunstall Commons, until she retired in 1986. In 1996, Louise married Jack Snell, on February 17, in Ellensburg. They spent twelve years traveling all fifty states and cruised most of the world, including Alaska, England, Scotland, The Panama Canal, the Mediterranean and Baltic seas, European rivers, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Louise was actively involved in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce, RSVP, played bridge and pinochle at the Senior Center and with many Rosewood friends, and enjoyed gardening--especially her tomato plant and entertaining. Louise is survived by her loving husband, Jack Snell, children, Yvonne (Jerry) Van Winkle of Orondo, WA, Thom (Peggy) Lancaster of Cashmere, WA, Joyce (Mike) Dunn of Republic, WA, Jeanne Lancaster of Ellensburg, WA, Paula Simmons of Wenatchee, WA and Mike (Penny Orwick) Lancaster of Missoula, MT; sister, Sylvia (Fred) Bignell of England, special nephews, Bob (FI) Parker of Fountain Valley, CA, Ray Parker (Taraneh) of England, twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her late husband Paul Lancaster who passed away in 1990 and four sisters. Louise was a loving woman who will be greatly missed by her husband, family and all who knew her.
