This obituary is administered by:
Margaret Witte WeeksKnoxville, TNMargaret Witte Weeks, 94, was born on February 26, 1922, to Edwin and Florence Witte, in Madison, WI, where her father was a professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin. Edwin Witte worked for President Franklin Roosevelt's administration and authored the Social Security Act of 1935. Margaret attended Oberlin College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. During World War II, she moved to Milan, TN, to work at a munitions plant in the personnel department. Margaret interviewed Felder Weeks for a job. During the interview, Felder asked her out, and they were married a short time later. After the war, Felder finished his architectural degree at Georgia Tech. Margaret and Felder then moved to Knoxville, where they raised five children. Margaret and Felder were active in the community. They were charter members of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Margaret volunteered at Ft. Sanders Medical Center for more than fifty years. She was a president of AFS (American Field Service) at West High School. Her family sent and hosted several exchange students. Margaret was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Gardeners club. She volunteered at her church rummage store for many years. Known for her dry wit, Margaret was an inspiration, mentor, and friend to many. She loved travel, reading, and her large, geographically-dispersed family. She and Felder traveled all over the world. Margaret frequently visited her daughter Mary and family in Turkey, most recently when she was ninety-two. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of fifty-five years, Felder S. Weeks. Survivors include five children; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Paul Weeks (Jeannine), James (Erica) Weeks and Catherine Weeks Robson (Derek); Sally Weeks Pete (Bill), Laura Kavanagh (Kara) and son, Vincent, Sara Wingate Bako (Mike) and son, Evan, David Wingate (Kaitlyn); Susan Weeks (Steven Wright), Paul (Katherine), Daniel, and Jennifer Wright; Martha Weeks; Mary Weeks Senyuz (Kaya), Erol, Timur, and Miray Senyuz; and special family friend Katie McHargue. The family thanks the caring staff at Manorhouse, where Margaret lived the last seven months of her life. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Monday, February 20th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 800 S. Northshore Drive, Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to Fort Sanders Foundation, 280 Fort Sanders West Blvd., #202, Knoxville, TN, 37922, or AFS-USA, 120 Wall Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY, 10005.
