Dec 09, 1934 - Jan 11, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Margaret Fohn-Rickert Age 82, passed away April 11, 2017 at her home in the loving care of her family. She was born on December 9, 1934 in Tacoma to Valentine and Ursula Ambuehl and was raised in Fife, WA where her parents operated the Oakwood Dairy. Margaret graduated from Fife High School and Pacific Lutheran University with a BA in Education. While an elementary teacher in Puyallup, Margaret met and married Edward Fohn, who was raised on the Swiss Fohn farm in La Connor, Washington. Both valued education and relocated to Texas as Ed completed his doctorate of chemistry. Upon returning to Washington, Margaret continued to teach another 35 years, mostly substituting in the Federal Way and Fife School Districts. Margaret always had an engaging smile and friendly caring personality that resulted in a large circle of friends to share travel, shopping, gardening, Zumba and many other activities. Active and energetic, she was ready for a game of family tennis, ping pong, a mountain hike, a walk on the beach, or a swim in Steel Lake at her home. After Ed passed in 1995, she was blessed to meet Glenn Rickert on a cruise halfway around the world, only to find he grew up with Ed and was a retired coach and teacher from Burlington, Washington. They married in 2006 and shared 11 wonderful years together. Margaret will be remembered for her devotion to family where she organized trips, reunions and other gatherings. She touched many people with her caring, thoughtful ways and her constant zest for life. She was proud of her Swiss heritage and was an active member of the Swiss Ladies Society. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Edward and her brother Valentine. She is survived by her husband Glenn Rickert, children Stephen Fohn (Mindy), Renee Peterson (Jeff), Scott Fohn (Jeanette) and Peter Fohn; her grandchildren Zachary Fohn (Sydney), Alexandra and Nicholas Peterson, and Sarah Fohn; and her siblings Andrew Ambuehl (Donna), Ruth Richtmyer (Richard), and Richard Ambuehl (Virginia) along with numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 720 West Main, Puyallup on Friday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of her life for her many friends and family at the Swiss Sportsman's Club of Tacoma. She will be laid to rest in Sumner City Cemetery. Remembrances in honor of Margaret may be made to the Ed Fohn Memorial Scholarship at Green River College or the .
