Homegoing Celebration For Marcus Carter
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marcus Lynn Carter on May 27th, 2023. Marcus was born on January 1st, 1950 in Jackson, MS, but was a lifelong resident of the Windy City. Marcus moved to Chicago with his family, when he was a young boy.
As a youngster, Marcus was known for his love of hot dogs and baseball. He could often be found munching on a dog while cheering on his beloved Cubs at Wrigley Field. Marcus graduated from John Marshall High School and began working at Al's Meat Market. During his tenure at Al's Meat Market, Marcus learned to be a butcher. Marcus later worked as a driver for the Butternut Bread Company. In 1991 he decided to open his own Meat Market. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
As he got older, Marcus developed a passion for music and spent many a night at his favorite blues clubs, grooving to the sounds of his favorite artists. He also loved to dance and was known to bust a move whenever the mood struck him.
In 2014, he decided to move back to the place of his birth, Jackson, MS.
In his later years, Marcus enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. On Saturday, May 27, 2023, God came and whisked Marcus away. He moved him to a better place. A place not made by hands, but prepared him at the beginning of time.
Marcus is survived by his loving family: a devoted brother Robert; a sister Caroline; four son Ronald, Christopher, Jerod, Anthony, twelve grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Marcus. Your spirit will live on.
