Lisa Marie VigAGE: 42 • Abingdon, MDLisa Marie (Weis) Vig, age 42, of Abingdon, MD, formerly of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully at her home after a long courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, February 9, 2017. She was born on July 23, 1974 in Dover, DE, the daughter of Sandy Spence of Townsend, DE and Ralph Weis, Jr. of Bridgeville, DE.Mrs. Vig was a graduate of the University of Delaware with a BS in Athletic Training as well as a graduate of Wilmington University, where she earned her Master's in Education.Lisa was a member of the Smyrna High School band, the Kent County Honors band, a Unified Partner with Special Olympics Delaware and enjoyed playing and coaching softball.Other activities that she enjoyed were traveling, fishing, spending time with family, especially her niece Keira, doing various puzzles, making photo memorabilia for family members and watching favorite TV shows.Lisa worked as an Elementary School Teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools for over eight years.She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, William Spence and Ralph Weis, Sr.In addition to her birth parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Paul Vig, and his mother Neena Chaudhary; her step-mother Peggy Lee; her brother Scott Weis; her niece Keira Weis; grandmother Barbara Spence; sister-in-law Shalini Arora; nephew Neil Arora; brother-in-law Sanjay Arora; and father-in-law Virendra Vig. She is also survived by uncles and aunts, Jerry and Cathy Blanco and Randy and Vicki Spence; and many cousins.A viewing will be offered on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 7 pm to 10 pm and again on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 11 am to 12 pm, immediately followed by funeral services in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna, DE. Burial will be privately held.Flowers are welcome, however, in lieu of flowers; the family suggests memorial contributions in Lisa's name to Special Olympics Delaware.
