The Life of Lewis LaRue Campbell

Lewis LaRue Campbell was born to Edwina Floyd and Lewis B. Collins on June 10th 1956 in Chicago Illinois. (Robert Floyd and Walter Perkins) took on the roll of his father and both raised him as their own Son.

Lewis’ Mother: Edwina Floyd, Sister: Narita Jean Perkins, 2 brothers: James Pratcher and Sam Campbell and his late wife Deena Campbell all preceded him in death.

Lewis attended Penn Elementary and later graduated from Westinghouse High School. After high school Lewis immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Being discharged Honorable after serving 4 years.

Lewis worked multiple jobs during his life time.  With the US Postal Service, Marshal Field’s Co. and he also did welding. Lewis possessed a fun, loving and generous spirit, always laughing and joking and enjoying life. He would come to the assistance of anyone in need. Whether it was shoveling snow or going to the store for a neighbor.

Lewis Campbell was well known to many as LaRue. He held a passion for singing. (Any song by Luther Vandross was his favorite to sing) although he sang many songs and was once a part of a band in his younger years. He loved singing at family events. He was a comrade to many other vets that he met and befriended. Lewis will surely be missed.

A special thanks to Ms. Norma Wilson his VA counselor, who was dedicated to helping him for many years and became like family to him. Lewis was summoned from Labor to Reward on May 1st, 2021.

LaRue leaves to cherish his three children: Narita Campbell (Charles), Leiyoni and Kenyon Campbell who will miss him dearly. 6 grandchildren: Johnny, Jeremy, Jasmine, Jamia, & Jaymie Kennedy & Alysha Gibson. He had 8 great-grandchildren. 8 sisters: Jackie Fowler, Jennifer Thomas, Joan Campbell, Nancy Campbell, Myra (Rashee) Bell, Adell Vasser, Carol Yvette Pratcher, Latanga Allen-Floyd. LaRue was affectionately known as “Unc” by a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory his previous wife Alycia Campbell.
