Mrs. Laurie Adams CrowsonHattiesburg, MSMrs. Laurie Adams Crowson, age 82, died on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. E. Gerry Adams and two sons, Kenneth Crowson and Eric Crowson. At a future date, the interment of Laurie's remains is to be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Kissimmee, Florida.She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Paul R. Crowson, by one son, William Crowson, by three sisters in Florida, Nancy Adams, Edith Spain and Gerry Evans (Bill) and by a number nephews and nieces.Laurie was born on August 20, 1934 at Daytona, Florida and graduated from Fletcher High School at Jacksonville Beach, Florida in 1952. She attended Tulane University at New Orleans one year and earned the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in 1956 at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. She earned two Master of Library Science degrees at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1979 and 1985, respectively.In the school year 1970-71, Laurie taught Bookkeeping at Bradford High School at Starke, Florida. From 1971 until her retirement in 1997, Laurie served in the Hattiesburg Public School System starting as a Library Aide for two years and thereafter as Librarian at Hawkins Junior High School (now known as Hawkins Elementary School). Laurie had many skills and worked at improving her own capabilities and also at motivating others toward self improvement.Laurie was very interested in genealogy. She prepared records of her ancestry on several of her family lines in America dating back to the year 1620. She was a member of several national lineage societies, including: Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century, Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America, Daughters of the American Revolution and Dames of the Court of Honor. She served in a variety of offices in these organizations and enjoyed being a working member. She also assisted those seeking membership with their applications and by supplying information sources to obtain the required proofs of ancestry. Laurie was also a member of First Families of Mississippi.After retirement, Laurie enjoyed volunteer work with: The Hattiesburg Area Historical Society, The South Mississippi Genealogical and Historical Society and served twelve years as receptionist at The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Southern Mississippi.Laurie was instrumental in producing a book, not published, "The History of The Mississippi State Society Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century 1965-2015." Also, two volumes, not published, of "Hulett Funeral Home Records of Funerals, January 1912 - December 1939."Laurie obtained the memoirs of one of her great-grandfathers, David Eldred Holt of Woodville, Mississippi. These were published in 1995 by the LSU Press, entitled: "A MISSISSIPPI REBEL IN THE ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA," in which credit was given to Laurie. The Holt and Davis families (Jefferson Davis of the Confederacy) were prominent at Woodville in the 1800's. The memoirs relate the experiences of David Eldred Holt in the era and on the battle fields of the Civil War.Laurie was a kind, gentle and generous person. She always wanted to be helpful to others and to achieve excellence in all of her work. She never sought praise or recognition for her efforts. She was prudent and diligent in the management of her household. She was trustworthy, highly capable and a blessing to every person with whom she came in contact.Laurie lived the true Christian life by her steadfast daily faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, ever "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). Our Lord said: "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26). Although Laurie is now absent from her earthly body, she is now in our Lord's presence, awaiting the great Day of Resurrection. We thank God for all of his goodness, His everlasting mercies and especially for His gifts of love, grace and faith in the truly good life of Laurie Adams Crowson. (By: Paul R. Crowson)
