MILNER, Larry ShannonLarry Shannon Milner received his heavenly crown on November 20, 2016. He was born on May 22, 1937 to Mary Brownfield Milner and Murray Milner in Dallas, Texas. Larry grew up in Dallas and Brownwood, Texas and proudly served two years aboard ship in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelors Degree in Government before beginning his incredible career journey. He was Executive Director at the Cisco Chamber of Commerce when he met and married his soulmate, Suzanne Gerrard. They were married for 53 years and raised 3 daughters, Laura, Pollyanna and Bonnie. Larry's full career included Vice President of Southwestern Public Service, President of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, runner-up in a race for the U.S. Congress, President of the Texas Chamber of Commerce and finally, an International Consultant on Economic Development. He had many great adventures all over the world including touring Europe as a cast member of Shakespeare's Midsummer's Night's Dream - Texas Style while in college and his consulting years where he walked the Great Wall of China, belly danced in the Middle East and worked with the ministries in Baghdad during the Iraq War. He was privileged to meet and work with five U.S. Presidents and countless foreign dignitaries. At age 58, Larry earned a Masters Degree in History from Texas State University with a 4.0 GPA. He had many passions including the Johnson City United Methodist Church, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers baseball, jelly beans, travelling new roads, Palo Duro Canyon, his Emmaus Reunion Group, art museums all over the world, the Navy, Thanksgiving with all the kids, Johnson City Lights Spectacular, and especially his family and his wife, Suzanne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Murray Milner of Brownwood. He was loved and survived by his wife Suzanne and 3 daughters, Laura Traylor and her husband Chris Traylor of Austin, Pollyanna Conover and her husband Greg Conover of Fort Worth, Bonnie Buck and her husband Scooter Buck of Cypress, and his niece who is dear as a daughter, Stacey Jones and husband Dr. Troy Jones of San Antonio. He was also special to his seven grandchildren, Will and Betsy Traylor, Ryan and Alyssa Conover and Shane, Suzanne and Sarah Buck as well as grandnephews Evan and Eric Jones. Larry is also survived by his brother, Murray Milner and his wife, Sylvia Milner, and his sister Shy Milner Hicks. He was proud of his numerous charity projects and chairing multiple committees in various cities including a bid for the Super Conducting Super Collider in the Texas Panhandle, Johnson City TownScape Task Force and the Johnson City Community Education Foundation (a Scholarship fund for higher education for Johnson City students). He was also proud of the donation of his extensive political campaign button collection to Howard Payne University Political Studies Department. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, 105 N. LBJ Dr., Johnson City, TX 78636.
