Kathleen Ann Ingram Obituary

Jun 27, 1927 - Mar 13, 2019

This obituary is administered by:

Kathleen “Kat” Ann Ingram, 94, a long-time resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died at home on March 14, 2019, following a short illness.

Kat was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Foy Ingram. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charlotte O'Keefe (Michael), Amy Hilson (Mark), and Tom Ingram (Beth Trotman). She was the cherished grandmother of Jay Campbell (Beth Sullivan), Jaime Watson (Stephen), Ian Campbell, and Mary Bradley (Austin), and the loving great-grandmother of Avery, Liam, and Harper.

Born in rural Alabama on June 27, 1924, Kathleen grew up with three brothers and one sister. In her early years, she was a teacher and later a stay-at-home mom.

Kathleen introduced her children to the joys of learning and inspired in them a love of books. She also gave the gift of music to her whole family. An adept pianist and singer who knew not only hymns and carols but many popular songs, she sang alto in the St. James United Methodist Church choir and was also an amazing whistler. Her family remembers her as smart, funny, kind, tough, loyal, fun-loving, faithful, talented, and humble. She loved birds, especially Carolina wrens and hummingbirds. She had a keen sense of humor and helped her children learn to laugh now and then instead of taking everything too seriously.

A skilled seamstress who graduated from Auburn University with a Clothing and Textiles major, Kathleen made her daughters' perfectly fitted clothes from fabric and patterns of their choice. She was a great cook and the creator of many memorable Thanksgiving and Christmas family feasts. The beach was her favorite place. She loved going to the Gulf coast with her family and was a devoted sun worshipper all of her life.

Kathleen often worked quietly behind the scenes, doing so much for so many people, organizations, and projects: making things at home for the church bazaar, being the PTA secretary, working in the church kitchen on BBQ days, and singing in the choir. She set an example to not be “needy” for recognition or praise, and to enjoy doing the little things in the background that make something a success.

Living at Ashley Glen Senior Living in Prattville since 2012, she was beloved by the staff there and enjoyed frequent visits by her children, grandchildren, and their families. Her greatest compliment was to grasp someone's hand and kiss it, and many family members and friends fondly recall this gesture of love and appreciation.

The family would like to express deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff at Ashley Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care. They provided compassionate care and love to Kathleen throughout her seven years there.

A graveside memorial service will be held for family and friends at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery.
