Karl Alfred Dennis was born on July 5, 1919 to Lee and Emily Dennis in Deadwood, South Dakota. He passed away at his home on Sunday, April 1, 2012. His family moved to Yuma in 1926 where is father started Dennis Construction Company. He graduated from Yuma High School in 1938. While at Yuma High, he was the manager for the football team. He then went on to attend the University of Arizona where he managed the Varsity football team, was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and earned a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served on a submarine until his discharge in 1946. He moved back to Yuma after leaving the service and got into the family business, which he eventually took over when his father passed away. He married Alma Brown in 1959. Karl was a founding member of the Yuma Golf and Country Club. He served on the Crane School board in the 1970's. He also was a member of Associated General Contractors of America. Karl eventually turned over the running of Dennis Construction to his son Keith in the early 1990's. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and spending time with his many dogs. His parents and his wife Alma preceded Karl in death. He is survived by his son Keith (Brenda), grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn, sister, Barbara Sullivan and his nephews Tim, Tom and Terry Sullivan. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, April 21st at Calvary Lutheran Church 711 7th Avenue, followed by a reception at Yuma Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers Memorials can be given in his name to University of Arizona, Hospice of Yuma or Calvary Lutheran Church. The family wishes to thank his caregivers Regina and Isabel for the wonderful care that they gave him in his final years. Papa, we will miss you very much.
