Judith M. (Maples) Mason Age 79, of Huntington Beach CA., passed away at home of complications from pneumonia on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Judy was born on July 11, 1937, in Manitowoc, WI, daughter of the late Stanley and Evelyn (Ahrens) Maples. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, WI. class of 1955. Judy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor's Degree in 1959. She decided to move to California where she went on to receive a Master's Degree from Azuza Pacific University in 1982. Judy was employed as a teacher for the Long Beach Unified School District for over 30 years. She was voted Teacher of the Year 1991-1992. In addition to teaching, Judy also served as a mentor teacher and upon retirement she continued on as an LBSD employee screening and interviewing potential teachers. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma (Society of Women Educators) and the California Retired Teachers Association. Judy especially enjoyed her many social groups, visiting with her longtime teacher friends since the 1950's in Belmont Shore and her friends from childhood. She enjoyed attending Musical Theater West, the Carpenter Center, movies and dining out at the newest restaurants. Judy had a passion for reading, traveling, Elvis and the Green Bay Packers. Judy traveled throughout Europe, Russia, Spain, Australia, Greece and many more countries and always looked forward to coming home to Huntington Beach, CA. Survivors include her two daughters: Anne (Terry) Mason-Arnold and Amy Mason, both of Huntington Beach, California; two brothers: James J Maples, Manitowoc, Gary D. Maples, Sheboygan Falls. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Roger Maples. It was Judy's request to be cremated and a celebration of her life is planned for this summer in California on what would have been the week of her 80th birthday.
