On July 2, 2011, John L. Weber passed away at Community Hospice Center, Longview, WA and finally reunited with his beloved wife of 70 years, Emelia. He was 92 years old.John was born on March 11, 1919 near Dallas, Oregon, "Johnnie" was the youngest of eight. His parents were Emanuel and Catherine (Kraus) Weber, German immigrants from Russia. The family endured the loss of his mother in 1924. His father soon married Catherine Kelln, a widowed immigrant with four children. He and Emelia Klein married in November 1939 in Portland, OR. He worked in various war-related industries until hired by IBM in 1944. Their first daughter was born in 1941. In 1945 John joined the US Navy and was stationed in California in preparation for the invasion of Japan when the war abruptly ended. IBM transferred John to Longview in 1947 where he and Emelia lived the rest of their lives. Their family grew to include two more girls and a boy. All four children played the violin and graduated from R. A. Long High School (Longview) and the University of Washington in Seattle. From 1980 until 2005 they wintered in Yuma, Arizona. They became active in the Yuma First Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was a volunteer driver for veterans needing transport to medical appointments in Phoenix and Tucson. He was also active in the Desert Lakes Homeowners Association and helped organize the Washington State Annual Picnic held here each February 22. John was preceded in death by his wife, Emelia, a daughter, Laurie Lee, his parents and ten of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister, Eva Friesen of Dallas, OR; three daughters, Linda Lang (Jim) of Kirkland, WA; Beth Weber (Mark McCormick) of Cocolalla, ID; and Judy Weber of Redmond, WA and a son, Dennis (Kris McElroy) of Longview. He has eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Memorial contributions can be made to the Yuma First Presbyterian Church or the Yuma Regional Medical Center. Memorial service will be held Sept. 3 in Longview. Internment will be at Longview Memorial Cemetery.
