This obituary is administered by:
Sipes, Janet MaeJanet Mae Sipes, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 26, 2016. She was lounging in one of her comfortable chairs in her Green Bay home. She was born on October 8, 1933 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Alice and Emery Owens.Janet is survived by her husband Donald R. Sipes M.D. at home in Green Bay. Her sister Sharon (Mark) Patterson who reside in Scottsdale, AZ, son and wife, Donald R. Sipes II, M.D. and Jennifer Sipes. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, D.J Sipes, Alyssa Sipes, Isabella Sipes, Anna (Noah) DeBruyn and Elizabeth DeBruyn. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan L. Sipes, M.D., her parents Alice and Edwin Edwards, Emery and Evalyn Owens. Janet's family moved to Waukesha, WI where she graduated from Waukesha High School, class of 1952. She was in many activities and was Prom Queen. Her life journey then took her to the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1956 with a nutrition major. She then went to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for her dietetics internship. After that she moved on to a research position at the University of Missouri Medical School where she met a medical student, Don Sipes. She was teaching him to draw blood. After a seven month courtship, they moved and remained married for over 58 years. After Don graduated from medical school they went to Charlottesville, Virginia for his internship, where Susan, their daughter, was born. They travelled back to Columbia, Missouri, where Donald, there son, was born. The Wisconsin girl came back with her husband and two children and made Green Bay their home. She continued with her dietetics while Don grew his OB/GYN practice. Janet was very business minded and good with numbers. As the office manager at Bay West OB/GYN for many years, she made this a very successful practice. Donald and Janet made a great team both at work and in life. . Not only was she accomplished in her educational and professional life, she also had many loves outside of work. First and foremost, she loved and would do anything for her family. She made sure her children and grandchildren could be all that they could be. She was active in the community and with charitable events, especially for many years in the Juniors Women's Club. She socialized with the Shakespeare Club and Bridge Club. She passed the time with her knittings and her gardens. She always made sure everything was just right. She never missed watching a Packer game and this season will be the first year she did not go to a game at Lambeau Field. Another hobby that became an obsession was studying genealogy. Bus trips to cemeteries and other counties to find her roots took a lot of energy. She is now in heaven explaining to all how they are related! After Don retired from his practice, they retired to Scottsdale, Arizona in the winter. They very much enjoyed their time there and the summers at the cottage with family. Janet was a strong woman that is loved by her family and friends. She will be missed terribly, but we know she is now in a better place with her daughter and family who have gone before her. Please help us celebrate her life at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St., Green Bay. Visitation will start Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Church service will start at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Janet's name. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
