CHARLOTTE BREWER, 81, of Oakland, Tennessee, United States, passed Monday, August 05, 2019. CHARLOTTE was born August 11, 1941.

Jacqueline Charlotte (CeCe) Harvey (Brewer) was born in Somerville, TN. in 1941.  She was one nine children: Odalia Jones (Brewer), Dosie Bewer, Janice Sennett (Brewer), Evangeline Shaw (Brewer), Mattie Mae Brown (Brewer) and Lorice Flint (Brewer). She had two brothers, Matthew Brewer and Jerry Brewer. 

In 1958, she graduated as valedictorian from Fayette-Ware High School in Somerville, TN.  She then attended Boston College where she graduated with honors and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a minor in Statistics in 1962.  She continued on to earn a Master's degree in Economics in 1967.

While in college, she held various jobs including kitchen worker, clerk, and postal sorter.  After a long night spent at the post office she could often be found reading a good book in the library or singing in church.      Before electronic calculators became commonplace, she enjoyed teaching a class on how to use a sliderule.

After college, CeCe moved to Oakland, TN and spent her time in the classroom teaching economics to junior high students. She served as "favorite teacher" in Fayette County from 1967 to 1970. In 1971, She open her own accounting office, becoming one of the first black women in Fayette County to have their own business.

In 1972, CeCe met Lane Harvey at the local supermarket. They dated for 2 years before getting married in 1974. CeCe always joked about loving younger men, as Lane was 2 years her junior. They later had two kids together before his passing in 2000.

CeCe was active in giving back to the community, serving as President of the PTO and running drives to give school supplies to ayone in need. She also volunteered at the local retirement home and served on the board of trustees for Alexander Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her life, CeCe was an enthusiastic fisher and deer hunter.  She could often be found gazing out of the window as she watched the deers and birds dart throughout her backyard.

CeCe died of cancer at the age of 75 while in hospice care at Baptist Memoral Hospital. She had two children, Gaynella Hayes (Thomas) and Edward Hayes (deceased). She was a member of Alexader Baptist Church in Somerville, TN and is buried at Alexander Cemetery in Somerville, TN
