Ismael Lujan, 98, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 in Las Vegas.He was born on Oct. 19, 1916 in Las Vegas to his parents Filiberto Lujan and Rufugio Porras Lujan.He was united in marriage in April 1937 to Magdalena Martinez Lujan in Las Vegas. Ismael served in the United States Army from March 24, 1944 to Oct. 21, 1944 with honorable discharge. He also loved cattle ranching. He is preceded in death by his parents, Filiberto and Rufugio Lujan; wife, Magdalena Lujan; granddaughter, Francesca Lujan; brother, Florencio Lujan and son-in-law, Arthur "Tudy" Gallegos.He is survived by his daughters and sons, Emma Lujan of Albuquerque, Bertha Gallegos and Blas Duran, Jose Lujan and wife, Vera Jo, Roy Lujan and Ismael Lujan Jr. and wife, Virginia, all of Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. The family of Ismael would like to thank the entire staff at the Vida Encantada Nursing Home for all their help and care.Viewing visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas. Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Wednesday also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Robbie Lujan, Ted Gallegos, Joseph Lujan, James Lujan, Dean Gallegos, William Segura, Dennis Segura, Peter Sena and Ronnie Gallegos.
