Howard was an original. He adored his pets and spoke their language. He egg-celled at puns and jokes. One career was not enough and he moved from sales at Fleetwood System, Inc. in Illinois to being a gentleman farmer in Minnesota, to finally owning his own moving company, Pantel Moving and Storage in California, before retiring to fish, garden, and collect stamps in Oregon.

Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on Thanksgiving Day 1940, he was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, and served as a parachutist in the Green Berets, Army Reserves. He is preceded to Paradise by his parents Howard William Pantel, Sr. and Margaret Wakefield Pantel. He is survived by his sisters LeAnna Markus and Margene Leffin, children Kimberly Pantel, Kathrine Pantel, and Howard (Kody) William Pantel, III, Companion Linda Ohm Pantel, lifelong friend Elaine Ebert, and ex-wife Virginia Salmina.

Howard entered Paradise on September 8th, 2015 at home in Salinas, California after a lengthy illness.
