Henry "Bob" Clarke, Jr. CHARLESTON - Henry "Bob" Clarke, Jr., 93, of Charleston, widower of Dorothy Mary (Lee) Clarke, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at NHC Healthcare in Charleston. Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 9 o'clock. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, Charleston. Henry was born on November 9, 1922 in Quincy, MA son of the late Henry Clarke, Sr. and Mary J. (Henderson) Clarke. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. During his service he served on the East Coast and in the South Pacific along with the Marines from 1941 to 1946. He was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, American Area Ribbon, World War II Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and The Good Conduct Ribbon, as well as a Letter of Commendation for rescuing a pilot downed in the sea by the Japanese. As a young man he also served in the 3 C's. He worked at Chase and Sons as a machinist and foreman in Randolph, MA. Henry retired from the Charleston Naval Base as a police officer for the Department of Defense. Henry was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Sonny, Kenneth and Frank Clarke. Surviving are: five daughters: Dianne M. Stroud (Glen) of Summerville, SC, Patricia A. Martin (Duane) of Canton, NC, Linda C. VonderLeith (Michael) of Summerville, SC, Carol Inabinette (Kenneth) of Summerville and Pamela J. Clarke Fabian of Summerville, SC; one sister: Lillian Willard of Randolph, MA; sister in law: Sybil Ann (Lee) Baur; 12 grandchildren; David Gour (Jeanie), Paul Gour (Chelsea), Lisa Harris (Tom), Laura Harris (Bill), Karen Bair (James), Susan Zarvatski (Derek), Jennifer Giugliano (Anthony), Kenny Inabinette, III (Lindsey), David Inabinette, Robert "Robbie" Fabian, Jr., Tiffanie Fabian & Ashlynn Fabian; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; Our Dad and our Hero, loving husband, caring father. Selfless at all times. A man who was kind, compassionate, gentle, tenderhearted and generous. Dad was strong and a hard worker. A devoted caregiver to our mother. He was always there for everyone. A dear, humble soul. Dad was the best dad in the whole world. He has given our family a beautiful legacy of love. Raising five daughters with such kindness and patience along with a great sense of humor. We have wonderful memories of Folly Beach vacations when Dad taught us girls how to fish and crab. We had many costume parties along with funny skits and plays which we performed for our parents. Mom and Dad gave us enough laughter to last us a lifetime.
