H. Arthur Johnson Obituary

Jul 25, 1927 - Sep 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
KAYSVILLE - H. Arthur Johnson, Jr., cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sept. 8, 2008. Arthur was born on July 25, 1927, to H. Arthur and Lillie Cicely Marie Hansen Johnson. Following graduation from South High, he served in the Navy during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Dawn Lindsay, on March 19, 1947, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He attended the University of Utah and became an aerospace engineer. In 1955 he made his home in Kaysville. He worked at Hill Air Force Base until his retirement in 1989. He loved his country, served as Mayor of Kaysville City and in other civic capacities. As an active member of his church, he served faithfully in many callings, including as bishop of the Sunset Ward. He and his wife, Evelyn, served a mission in France and worked in the Ogden Temple. Dad made his children and grandchildren feel loved and appreciated as individuals and treated the in-laws like they were his own. He loved people and took time to greet friends, co-workers and acquaintances with warmth and respect. He is known for being fair, honest and a man of his word. He took pleasure in spending time at the family cabin, and enjoyed hunting and camping with his family and dear friends. He spent many happy hours oil painting and working in his wood shop. His greatest joy and source of pride is the family he created with his angel wife. Our father was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Erma Clayton, Vivian Green, Thelma Timmerman, Marva Wayman and Lois May Midgley. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dawn Lindsay; children, Dawn (Jesse) Steele, David (Kathy) Johnson, Robert (Willa) Johnson of Logan, Patricia (Michael) Lawrence of Salt Lake City, Susan (Michael) Anderson of Logan, Karen (Neal) Hart, James (Cathy) Johnson of Paradise, Jamie Weeks (Denny Melancon), Catherine (Doug) Podkin of Vacaville, Calif., and Christina (Julio) Castro; as well as his 51 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Kaysville West Stake Center, 270 W. Burton Lane. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment is in Kaysville City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. We wish to thank McKay Dee Hospital, Hospice and the Kaysville City Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the LDS missionary fund. E-mail condolences to the family at www.lindquistmortuary.com.
