Maryland native and long-time Anne Arundel County resident Gerald Williams died peacefully in his sleep at Stella Maris Nursing home in Timonium on May 13, 2022 at the age of 97.
Gerald was born September 10, 1924 in South Baltimore and grew up in Halethorpe, the second eldest of nine children, son of the late Paul Everett Williams and the late Mary Margaret Williams. Gerald graduated as a scholar athlete from Mount St. Joseph's High School, Loyola College with a Bachelor of Arts in Machine Learning, and he later earned a certificate in Management Information systems from American University in Washington, D.C. He also received a Law degree and Masters degrees in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting from University of Baltimore and studied for his PhD at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, refusing to send in his final thesis because he "was bored." After participating in ROTC, Lt. Colonel Williams served 3 years active duty in the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany and remained in the U.S. Army Reserve in Curtis Bay, MD for an additional 27 years until retirement in 1989.
Serving as a Computer Science Technician and Instructor, Gerald rose through the ranks at the Defense Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency until he retired in 2001. In retirement, he became a highly sought after government contractor for various agencies such as CACI, Northrop Grumman, and many others.
Married for more than 65 years to Dorothy "Pat" Patricia Williams, together they raised 6 children, Nathanial Williams, Terry Williams, Shavon Williams, Myra Williams Wanda Anderson and Charles Williams. He enjoyed spending time with his large family which includes 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
