In Loving Memory Mary Jacques

It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Johnson, a beloved matriarch and pillar of strength within her community. Mary, aged 75, embarked on her final journey on May 16, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and boundless wisdom.

Born on February 28, 1950, in the vibrant city Rochester, Mary was a beacon of light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She epitomized grace, compassion, and the unwavering spirit that defined her generation.

Mary possessed an incredible zest for life and an infectious laughter that could fill a room with joy. She had a heart as vast as the ocean and an open-door policy that welcomed everyone into her warm embrace. Her home was a sanctuary where stories were shared, advice was given freely, and homemade meals were lovingly prepared.

A woman of great wisdom, Mary had an uncanny ability to offer guidance and support in times of need. Her wisdom was garnered through a life well-lived and a deep connection to her African heritage. She would often regale her loved ones with tales of her ancestors' resilience and the importance of unity and community.

Mary's kitchen was the heart of her home, where she lovingly prepared soulful meals that nourished both the body and the spirit. Her recipes were handed down through generations, each dish telling a story of love and heritage. Whether it was her famous collard greens, melt-in-your-mouth cornbread, or the mouthwatering sweet potato pie, Mary's culinary creations brought people together and created lasting memories.

She was an unwavering advocate for equality and justice, fighting tirelessly for the rights of her community. Mary's voice resonated with power and purpose, as she fearlessly stood up against discrimination and fought for a world where her grandchildren could thrive without limitations.

Mary Jacques will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched. She will be lived on by her Son, John Jacques and her 3 grandchildren Phinehas Jacques, Michael Jacques, and James Jacques. Her legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering strength will forever serve as a guiding light for those who follow in her footsteps.

To celebrate Mary's extraordinary life, a burial service will be held at Mt Hope on June 7th @ 3PM. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in vibrant colors as a testament to Mary's vibrant spirit. Following the service, a soulful feast will be shared, reminiscent of the flavors that Mary so masterfully prepared.
