Eugene T. Gene Becker1931 - 2013Eugene T. Gene Becker, 82, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Aurora Medical Center.He was born on Feb. 5, 1931, to the late Theodore and Catherine (Kemen) Becker in Kenosha. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. Gene served our country in the National Guard. He went to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and earned his teaching degree and continued his education earning his Masters Degree.On July 18, 1953, he married Jean Marie Forbes in Kenosha. They raised four children happily for 47 years. They divorced in 1992, maintaining a close relationship.Gene taught 6th grade at Bain Elementary and Jeffery Elementary for 34 years. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Kenosha Teachers Union. During the summer months, he was a journeyman painter for Ruffalos Decorating.Gene began his pitching career in 1946, working on the mound for United Cleaners and the Kenosha American Legion. He threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts against Wilmot in 1947. He helped his team take second in the Legion tournament in West Bend in 1947. Gene signed with the Chicago White Sox in 1949 and played minor league baseball, pitching a no-hitter in Wisconsin Rapids. Gene organized the Old-Timers Group in 1983 with the intention of promoting baseball in Kenosha County. He was the clubs first president, serving from 1984-1986. Gene was inducted into the Kenosha County Hall of Fame in 1994.Gene is survived by his loving children, Shelly Becker of Kenosha, Lauren (Don) Lodarek of Burlington and Douglas Becker of Pleasant Prairie, his siblings Robert (Marian) Becker of Spooner, Donna Becker of Kenosha, Margie (Robert) Bakula of Kenosha, Ted (Leanne) Becker of Kenosha and Barbara Remington of Greendale, his nine grandchildren, his seven great grandchildren, his former wife Jean of Burlington and 11 nieces and nephews.He is sadly preceded in death by a loving son Kenneth and two brothers William and Thomas.Funeral Services for Gene will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
