Emilia Chavez Brust Obituary

A Life Devoted to Family and the Compassion of Others

With her family by her side, Emilia C. Brust passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the age of 84.

Emilia was born November 12, 1934, in Clifton, AZ. to Liduvina and Camilo Chavez of Clifton, AZ. She was the second of five children. She met her spouse, Michael Brust, in San Francisco and was married in 1965. A marriage that spanned 53 years, and included four children. They raised their family in San Francisco (Noe Valley), where they lived for over 50 years. Emilia’s love of San Francisco, especially the fog, was known to bring a smile to her face. She loved the San Francisco city culture, after growing up in a small town.

Emilia’s banking career spanned over 25-years with Bank of America, mostly in the heart of her beloved neighborhood of Noe Valley. She loved to garden, bake, read, but most of all, spend time with her family. They were always #1 in her life. She was devoted to her catholic faith, and a member of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church for over 50-years. Her homemade cakes were well sought after at the annual Church/School Bazaar, where her girls attended as children. She made every holiday special for her girls (as she liked to call them), and she was legendary for her homemade popcorn balls she passed out every Halloween.

She was a dedicated grandparent to her seven grandchildren, and took a very active role in all their lives, never missing a First Communion, graduation, birthday; and made the effort to see every one of them in their many activities and sports. She herself was an avid fan of all sports, her favorite team being the Golden State Warriors, and spent her final days watching her favorite player, Steph Curry, make three point shots and would give a “whew!” for a particularly good shot. The only time her temper could flare, was a bad call on her Warriors.

She was easy going, kind, an extremely hard worker, tenacious in all things important to her, compassionate, and always willing to help anybody in need. She was generous with her time and resources, and had an unwavering optimism, regardless of the situation. She was beyond loved, and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and anyone whose life she touched in a way, only she could.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Brust; children: Kimberly Brust (Dave) Moran, Khristina  (Manuel) Nodar, Jacqueline (Cameron) Clark, Nichole Brust; grandchildren: Sierra Moran, Mariah Moran, Jerrod Nodar, Lukas Nodar, Izabella Nodar, Ella Clark, Madeleine Clark; sisters: Margaret Barney, Marie Burnett, Sylvia Brandt, Godsons/nephews: Myron Burnett and Phillip Brandt, Goddaughters/Cousins: Jean Romero, Ann Valtierra, brother and sister in law: Tom and Mary Brust…in addition to over 75 other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents Camilo Chavez (2000), Liduvina Chavez (2010) and brother Rudolfo Chavez.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Phillip the Apostle Church (San Francisco, CA). There will be a second service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clifton, AZ, then onto Sacred Heart Cemetery, her final resting place; alongside her parents, brother, and other family members. A reception will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish Center after the burial.

Actions speak louder than words: let your words teach and your actions speak….
