Elmer C. "Skinny" Krull, 95, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at a local care center. Elmer C. Krull, was born on August 18, 1913 to Helmer and Clara (Eikamp) Krull in Kingsbury County, South Dakota. Elmer attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1932. Elmer and his wife, Alice Houghton, were united in marriage on July 3, 1938. He was the Watertown Junior Chamber of Commerce President for a number of years in the 1940's and was very active in the local Boy Scouts of America organization. He ran a rifle club for many years in Watertown, mentoring many young shooters. He was the South Dakota State Indoor rifle champion twice. Many family vacations were based upon traveling to rifle tournaments across the United States. Prior to enlisting in the US Navy Seabees, he was civilian quartermaster for the war in charge of Watertown Trucking operations. During WW II. He was the skipper of a 120 ton tug in the South Pacific. Skinny worked as a salesman the majority of his life, retiring from Sears Roebuck. Skinny and his wife traveled extensively, visiting 48 states, Canada, Mexico, Central America and Germany. He spent the last thirty plus years wintering in Yuma. Where he was active in the Audubon Society, distributing toys to Mexican children in need and raising funds and supplies for a Mexican seminary. For many years, he hosted bus trips into Mexico visiting factories, stores and points of interest. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Golden Age Service Club and Quarterback Club in Watertown. The driving force in his life for many years has been working for the benefit of Lake Pelican water quality. He held many positions in various water organizations and worked indefatigably to realize his dream of dredging Lake Pelican. Elmer is survived by his daughter, Geri Bigham of Watertown, and her fiance Mike Coppin of Wahpeton, North Dakota; sister-in-law, Florence Ostrander of Yuma; niece, Christine Strawn of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice in January of 1997; and his son, Kerry Kim in August of 1977. A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown, on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Steven Bailey officiating. Andy Foster will be the soloist accompanied by Bruce Reinhardt. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military honors will be conducted by the Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown, and on Thursday prior to services at the church. Pallbearers will be Dwight Struckman, Daryl Struckman, Travis Struckman, Tim Struckman, Lisa (Struckman) Hagen and Michael Hagen.
