ODESSA - Ellen Frances Rankin passed away peacefully at her home to be with her Heavenly Father on December 11, 2016 after fighting courageous battles with a heart transplant and cancer. Ellen was born on July 29, 1939 in Slaton, TX. She was the daughter of Abzilla and Noel Galloway. She attended Andrews High School in Andrews, Texas. She graduated in 1957. While at Andrews she wrote award-winning essays that led to various scholarships. She attended Hardin-Simmons for one year and then attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. She worked as a research chemist at Balcones Labs before moving to Berkley, CA. She worked in research at UC Berkley where she worked toward her Master's degree. She moved to Odessa, Texas where she began employment at Southwestern Portland Cement as a Chemist. She worked there for 27 years. It was while working at Southwestern that she met the love of her life, Forrest Rankin. They were married on November 11, 1988. Forrest was a devoted, patient, loving and selfless friend and husband as he took care of her during her many illnesses. Forrest has been by Ellen's side every step of the way. They approached each battle together with optimism and courage. His love for Ellen was evident in the way he cared for her to the very end. She loved and served her Lord and Savior and attended Life Unlimited Church in Odessa. She was active in the Junior League, Pan American Round Table, and Master Gardeners. She had a love of gardening. She was known as a strong Christian. She loved the Lord and family gatherings. She faced life's challenges with dignity, grace, faith and joy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Abzilla and Noel Galloway, her father and mother -in law, Thomas and Kitty Ruby Rankin and her niece, Jenifer Bice. Left to Cherish her memory is her loving husband, Forrest Rankin, brother Dan Galloway (Rae), son, Brian Ranking, nephew, Jeremy Galloway (Andrea), nephew, Frank Bice (Kim), and great niece Chloe Bice, brother in-law, Bob Rankin, brother in law, Leroy Rankin (Norma) and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 13th from 7:00-8:30 pm. Funeral services will be at the Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 14th with Pastor Don Palmer of Life Unlimited Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
