Dorothy ThorntonJacksonDorothy Dell Thornton went to be with her Lord on February 21, 2017. She was born on December 23, 1941 to the late Jewel R. Thornton and Etta Mary Sullivan Thornton. She earned a Masters Degree from Mississippi College in Education and worked as a teacher for Jackson Public Schools from 1963 to 1996. She volunteered at St. Dominic Hospital and served as a Sunday School teacher at her Church. She was a Christian woman that loved the Lord, her church family and most of all her family. She loved everything that was butterflies. Ms. Thornton was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sister, Eva Nell Cunningham; nephews, Richard Cunningham, Russell Cunningham, Steven Cunningham; niece, Mary Cunningham; great niece, Stephanie Cunningham. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home.
