FAIRBORN — Donna Aldridge Zeller age 86 of Tipp City Ohio, formerly of Fairborn Ohio, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Donna was born on October 3, 1925 in West Frankfort, Illinois, to the late Harry and Mildred Aldridge. She graduated with the Class of 1946 from Bath High School in Fairborn where she met her late husband, Richard Gerhard Zeller. They were married on New Year's Eve 1950 sharing 55 years of marriage until his death in 2005. As a teenager during World War II, Donna managed to by-pass the age requirement and obtained a part-time job at Wright Patterson where she worked shipping radio parts overseas. Following high school she worked at the Air Material Command offices at Wright Patterson; attended a Federal Aviation Administration school in Nebraska to become a Certified Air Traffic Controller and worked for a time at George Mason College in Fairfax, Virginia. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1971, she and her husband owned and operated the Fairborn Soft Water Company.Donna was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Fairborn; a life member of the Ohio Valley Woodturners Association of Cincinnati, where she earned the Master Turner designation; a Brukner Nature Center and Brukner Stargazers Club member and volunteer; a former member of The Fairborn Art Association; a former member of The Fairborn Lioness' Club, where she was instrumental in establishing a Pilot Dog program in the 1980's which has continued and provided hundreds of service dogs to deserving individuals; and with her husband Richard, a Fairborn Lions Club Member, she helped organize the first Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival. Donna was a skilled artist in a variety of media; a self-taught naturalist; a photographer; an avid reader; dedicated Olympic Sports fan; and had an inquiring mind about most everything up until her death. Survivors include her son, Michael Richard Zeller and daughter-in-law Domini Stecker of Eugene, Oregon; sisters Billie Spitz of Cincinnati Ohio and Judy Hartman of Troy, Ohio; several cousins and numerous and special nieces and nephews that she loved, enjoyed, encouraged and disciplined as her own; and many wonderful friends and caregivers at The Randall Residence and SpringMeade Health Center in Tipp City Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was also preceded in death by an infant baby daughter and son; sisters Joanne Standin and Imogene Bayless; brother-in-laws Bill Standin, Charles Bayless and Gabe Hartman. No visitation or service is planned. A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled for next summer to remember Donna and celebrate her long and interesting life.
