We mourn the loss of our beloved Deborah B.C. Middleton, our “ MAMA” , sister and friend, who peacefully passed on to glory on August 5, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was born on February 12, 1954, to the late Christopher and Dorothy “Ruby” Middleton, Charleston, SC. Deborah leaves behind her two children, Stacy Middleton and Conswila “Connie” Middleton, father of her children Albert F. Smith, her adopted niece, Christie “Crystal” Middleton as well as her two grandchildren, Stacie (Peachie) Middleton and Madison Middleton, great granddaughter Raleigh Middleton-Lemon, sisters Inez Middleton and Ruby Lee Middleton and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Deborah’s parents, sister Chanel Middleton, brother Oran, and Ronald Middleton, and several nieces and nephews preceded her in death.
Having accepted Christ at an early age, Deborah attended CA Brown High School and graduated in 1972. She moved to French Lick, IN in the 80’s and was known to friends as “Disco” because of her love for dancing. Subsequently, Deborah went on to have a successful career in healthcare as a Nursing Assistant and later in the Hospitality Industry, before retiring after 20 years.
She always said how everything changed after giving birth to her children. Her family was her primary focus, and she took care of them until the end, sometimes to exclusion of her own needs. Deborah was passionate about teaching her children and others about life lessons and survival skills, inspiring them to follow their own path and chase their dreams. She and her daughter Connie (Army Commissioned Officer) were best friends and “Battle Buddies”. Connie always said, “she was married to her mama”. Deborah provided outstanding motherly support to Connie as she faithfully served across the United States for 28 years for the common defense of the nation.
Deborah leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Just as brilliant and knowledgeable as she was Deborah was an avid speed reader, having read over 2000 books. Her other interests consisted of discussing home remedies, watching Chinese movies in close caption, tending to her garden (known to have a green thumb), DIY projects, current events, and history. These hobbies brought her the most enjoyment and peace as she was a simple woman.
Her positive impact on the world will live on.
Deborah’s final request was not to have a memorial service or funeral by her immediate family. She wanted her epitaph to be a loving mother, loyal, hardworking, unselfish and respectful woman.
Rest easy Mama until we meet again!

Safely Home
by Author Unknown
I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright.
There is a perfect joy and beauty
in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus’ love illuminated
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
in the way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus’ arm to lean on
could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
for I love you dearly still.
Try to look beyond death’s shadows;
Pray to trust our Father’s will.
There is work still waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand.
Do it now, while life remaineth;
you shall rest in Jesus’ land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting;
Oh, the joy to see you come!
♥️🙏♥️ love you and I'm here
