On Thursday, March 20th, 1947, a strong baby boy was born to the late Clifton Lowery and Carrie Hunter at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Clifton matriculated through the Pittsburgh school system by attending Madison Elementary and McKelvy School, later graduating from Oliver High School in 1961. The day after his high school graduation, he moved to Philadelphia with his sister Bernice, and Philly became his home.

In 1963, he married his love, Edith Juanita Mathis, who preceded him in death. Their union produced two wonderful children, Vanessa and Clifton, Jr.

A strong work ethic was not a stranger to Clifton. He worked at the Meat Factory in the Millcreek section of Philadelphia. Cliff & his wife owned a thriving business named Casablanca Restaurant.  Clifton Louis Lowery Sr. was appointed to the Philadelphia Police Department on January 15th, 1965, and given badge number 4725. He was part of Police Academy Class number 168. On April 27th, 1965, he was assigned to the 18th district 55th Pine Streets. On November 7th, 1967, he was assigned to the Juvenile Aid Division. On November 20th, 1972 Police Officer Lowery was promoted to Detective and given badge number 746. Detective Lowery was assigned to West Detective Division, which is headquartered at 55th Pine Streets. Detective Lowery retired on September 13th, 1988. After he retired from the Police Department, he became employed as a Private Investigator for the Philadelphia Public Defender's Office. He was a faithful member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Guardian Civic League, and Sentinel Of Law Enforcement.
Clifton was an avid athlete! He enjoyed swimming, running, basketball, tennis, and he loved taking care of his tropical fish. After retirement, he studied piano with Sirus Bey and Alfie Pollite and took art classes at the Center in the Park where his art, a beautiful picture of his beloved grandson, was displayed at the Philadelphia Foundation. Clifton was polite and courteous and had a big smile that would light up the room. He was a "Man’s Man"! His creativity was not only with art and music, but Cliff enjoyed a good time with friends and family! His sense of style was distinct from the hats he wore. When Cliff entered a room, you knew he was there. He was kind and cared about people, so he voluntarily ran the SHARE food bank for those in need and would deliver food to the elderly. Even in this, he was still serving.
Clifton accepted Christ and joined Greater Bible Way Apostolic Church under the Pastorate of Apostle Benjamin Peterson. He attended services regularly and supported the life of the Church, and was a proud member until he was called to glory.
Clifton's precious memory is cherished by his children, Vanessa Lowery Brown and Clifton Lowery, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Jenine Lowery; grandson, Alexander Brown; and great-granddaughter, Ava Brown; three sisters, Bernice Johnson, Marlene Lowery and Earnestine Lowery; nieces Thandeka Bonaventure, Denise Hargrove, Ameena Lowery, host of nieces, nephews and remaining family; a loving mate, Gwen Hosey; and loyal friends. Rest Well, Clifton.
