“A woman of grace, grit, and generosity.”
With deep love and tender remembrance, we celebrate the life of Cherrel Doris Jackson, who peacefully transitioned on August 2, 2025, in her hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was 72 years young.
Cherrel was born on November 29, 1952, and raised in the heart of the 9th Ward. From the very beginning, she was a force of love, strength, and service—always putting others before herself. Her unwavering faith guided her path, and her hands worked tirelessly to build a life of purpose and compassion.
Cherrel made history as the only woman on her carpentry job, breaking barriers in a male-dominated field with quiet power and skill. But her truest legacy lives in the lives she touched through her service. As a dedicated member of First Evangelist Missionary Baptist Church, she was known for feeding the hungry, volunteering in community outreach, and being the one who always showed up with love in action. Her love language was acts of service, and she lived that language every single day.
She was a devoted mother to Layton, Tanya, and Letara, and a proud grandmother to a host of beautiful grandchildren. She now joins her beloved husband Samuel Jackson and her cherished son Warren in eternal rest.
Cherrel was the pillar everyone leaned on—family, neighbors, friends. Her arms were open, her kitchen warm, her words honest, and her spirit grounded. To know her was to be cared for, whether you were family by blood or by love.
