She was born on June 4, 1920 in Charleston, SC to Patrick Manion Bean and Catherine McManus. She graduated from Bishop England High School in 1938. In 1954 she married the love of her life James Joseph Hurley. They settled in Charleston, SC and together they raised their son, Shannon and daughter, Jeanette. Catherine worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 37 years. What brought her the biggest joys in life were gardening, cooking, and taking trips on the Greyhound bus. She was both spirited and spiritual, living her life as a devout Catholic. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament for more than 50 years. She was most passionate about her Irish heritage. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Hurley Deden and husband John of James Island and her son, James Shannon Hurley of Charleston and her grandson David Deden and wife Aileen, granddaughter Catherine Dorsch and husband Zach and granddaughter Tricia Bantz and husband Cameron. She was so proud of her five great-grandchildren Nolan, Gabriella, Alice, Thomas, and Charlie. She modeled her life by these words, "There are more things done by the power of prayer than this world could ever imagine." Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc. 766-1365.
