William Lloyd Hutchinson passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016 in his home. He was the youngest child of John and Anna Hutchinson, born on May 16, 1922. He married Venida Symes on June 1, 1944, and lived a beautiful, full life together until she passed away in 2006. Bill was a pilot in WWII and was very proud to have served his country. Bill earned his Doctorate of Education and wrote his thesis on creative thinking in children. He had a passion for education and served as a teacher, principal, and eventually the General Deputy Superintendent of Granite School District. Bill loved teaching and inspiring kids to be the best they could be, and build self-esteem. It was because of this passion he founded the Utah Boys Ranch. After his teaching career, Bill ran for public office and was elected Salt Lake County Commissioner. He was a champion of equality for all - well ahead of his time -fighting against discrimination of any kind. Bill had a flare for life that was contagious and was extremely active into his 90s. He often said that life began at 80. Bill loved to travel and had many adventures all over the world with family and close friends. He always made everyone feel special and had a strict policy of giving someone a compliment every day. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. Survived by his daughters Sheryl Robbins (Pete) and Julie Forsyth (Ron), grandchildren Brenda Ahlemann (David), Carolynn Bottino (Brian), Jerilynn Packer (Jon), John Forsyth, and great grand children Luke Ahlemann, Liam Packer, Madelynn Packer and Megan Packer as well as his step grandson Tom Robbins (Kim), and step granddaughter Patsy Colby (Rick) and many other extended family members. Preceded in death by his wife Venida and his dear friend Bob Heisel. Special thanks Josh, Gail, Marilyn, Gloria and all of the caregivers with Home Option, Home Comfort, and CNS Hospice who helped Bill live life with dignity to the very end. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 20 at 11:00 am at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City where friends may visit Tuesday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to the service.
