This obituary is administered by:

A life well lived...a lady well loved

Bertha Mae Anderson passed away peacefully and took flight into heaven's gates on October 8, 2024, at the age of 91. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and also the very well-loved and highly respected matriarch of the Woods family.

Bertha was born on July 14, 1933 in Union County of Lockhart, SC and later relocated to Charlotte, NC. She was the oldest child of Elbert and Amanda Land Woods and was respected as a motherly figure by her younger siblings. She later moved to Charlotte, NC and graduated from Second Ward High School. In 1954, before her high school graduation, she began working in Dietary Services at Presbyterian/Novant Hospital and her employment tenure spanned 41 years until her retirement in 1995.

Bertha was married to Gettie Anderson, Jr. for 69 years and two daughters were born from their union - Phyllis Ann and Harriet a.k.a. "Happy".

She was long-time, faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church where she was well known for her warm smile, kindness, and gentle spirit. Bertha truly was a lover of God the Father and Jesus Christ and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and siblings David Woods, Paul Woods, Daisy Benton, Robert Woods, and Tony Woods. Loving memories will be cherished by her daughters, Phyllis Ann (George) and Happy; special son, Norwood Nelson Walker; siblings Judy Cureton, Jerry Woods, Joyce Hooker (Lee), Carolyn Woods, Cathy Woods Sloan, and Doretta Owens.

Special Tributes from her daughters:

Phyllis: Mama was a beautiful mother and my one and only very best friend. She was always there for me and she made me who I am today. She was full of strength, love, and wisdom and the best advice she gave me was "don't be concerned about what others think of you - just be yourself".

Happy: Mama always told me to "be good".
