107, died at her home in Ellenton FL on December 5th, 2016 under the care of Tidewell Hospice. Bertha E. (Bouvier) Donnelly was born on April 19th, 1909 in Malone, New York to Alfred and Eva (Wood) Bouvier. She was their second child, having an older sister Genevieve and three more children were to follow, Bernadette, Harry and Arthur. She attended Malone schools, graduating from Franklin Academy in 1927 and then onto SUNY Potsdam where she received her teaching degree. Her first job was in a one room school house and from there to Sidney New York where she was a well known and respected teacher. Upon her marriage to Patrick H. Donnelly on June 28, 1958, she moved to Sauquoit, New York and taught 5th grade until she retired. She and her husband moved back to Malone and bought a small grocery store on Mountain View Lake in the Adirondacks. With the thought of long and cold winters, they moved to St. Petersburg Florida and then to Ellenton and Tidevue Estates where she has resided for 40 years. Bertha was very active in all activities both in her church and in the "The Park". She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Palmetto, FL and its Rosary Society and Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and attended their convention in Tampa at the age of 102. She was part of the Choralettes, various card clubs and craft groups. She loved to knit and crochet. She was an excellent cook, everyone always raved about her pies, cakes, cookies, breads and doughnuts. She was a very special wife, sister, aunt and friend, always generous with her time and talents. She was very religious, her faith was very important to her and prayer consumed the majority of her day. She took part in her church's prayer line and if she was asked to pray for someone or something, she kept you in her prayers indefinitely. Bertha was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 on Monday, December 19th at Holy Cross Church, Palmetto, FL with Rev Bernie officiating. A viewing will be held in the church from 11:00 until the time of the funeral. Burial will follow in the Sarasota National Cemetery.
