Passed away in Petaluma, July 15, 2015 at 93 years of age. Barbara Douglas, a native San Franciscan, born to Edna and Ralph Douglas on August 28, 1921 and sister to Joan Douglas Hunt, lived all of her life in San Francisco until she retired and moved to Petaluma in 1997 to be closer to family and to get away from that Richmond District fog! Loving wife to William K. Ward and Thomas J. Mackey, beloved mother to Carol (Nicki) Bauer (Don), Kathy Miles (Paul), Michael Ward (Susie), Miriam Ward, Marcy Kerr, Judy Pineda (Rod), Ronnie Meyers (Larry), and Will Ward (Luisa), grandmother to 7 and great grandmother to 5, aunt to John Hunt and his family, and cousin to many. She was a graduate of St. Monica’s Grammar School and Presentation High School, with several years of study at UC Berkeley, during which she became a lifelong member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Barbara lovingly raised a large family of 8 and then continued on to work at The Emporium on Market Street for almost 40 years, retiring at 75 due to the closure of the store. Both in San Francisco and Petaluma, she was an avid gardener, even into her 90’s. Barbara was a strong, noble, generous and loving woman. She was one of a kind, our moral compass and our Rock of Gibraltar, and although her family and friends were graced with her presence for more years than many are allowed, the loss of her will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Viewing will be Sunday, July 19 from 2 – 6pm, with a Rosary at 4pm at the Adobe Creek Funeral Home, 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma; funeral services will be Monday, July 20 at 11am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St, Petaluma followed by a reception; internment will be Tuesday, July 21 at 11am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
