"A Celebration of Life"

Antoinette 'Toni' Alicia James had a passion for life. Antoinette was a free spirited person, with a smile and dimple to match that made an impact on so many people’s lives throughout her own journey. Antoinette James was born on August 11th, 1955, in Washington, D.C. She was the sixth child of Naho James, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth "Biddie" James and the twin sister to Montel James. Antoinette attended Stuart Junior High School and Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. During her early twenties she gave birth to two children; a son, David Mark James and daughter, Deborah Detrius James. Antoinette went to work in the cafeteria at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital and eventually became a good will ambassador for an organization known as Volunteers of America after winning the hearts of the staff and peers turned friendships during her time as a resident and patient. Antoinette had a natural gift of her hands, able to draw the most beautiful pictures, craft the oddest of Knick knacks and had a flair for fashion which complimented her eccentric spirit. Another hobby of hers was basketball and enjoying the freedoms of a nomadic Washingtonian. Antoinette had a great sense of humor and was a fighter! Yes, a fighter....she fought to be here and leave her mark over the last 62 years. Above all she had a spiritual connection always keeping her rosaries and bible near which is what inspired the names of her children, David's name being books of the Bible and Deborah, a prophetess of God. To know her was to love her, through all the changes she experienced in life she always kept her smile and whits about herself. Antoinette was preceded in death by her sisters Audrey, Clarabelle, Tina and her brother Naho 'Man' James, Jr. She leave to cherish her memory two children; Deborah James and David James, seven grandchildren; Nia Hester, William Chism IV, Leiah Campbell, Daviana James, Dontae James, Bently James and baby James. She is also survived by her sisters Mary, Doreen, Lott 'Bo', Preston and Montel and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and Aunt Ruby. She will be eternally missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
