Anne Stewart Obituary

Sep 19, 1946 - Jan 03, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Anne Lund Stewart1946-2016Anne Lund Stewart, a food aficionado, domestic goddess and always aspiring cook book writer, died at her home in Houston on Monday, the 3rd of October 2016. She was 70. Anne was best known for her amazing food and love for entertaining. It was nearly impossible to leave her kitchen table without a big smile and full stomach. One of her favorite times of the year was spring, during which she would host her famous Tulip Party. Anne had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. Her trick was repetition. If she didn't get you on the first attempt, she was sure to have you on the 50th. And don't even think about telling her that you've "heard this one already". Anne was born on the 19th of September 1946, in Richmond, Virginia, and spent her high school years in Indianapolis. She attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating in 1968. While on campus, she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She remained involved until the day she passed, most recently with the rebuilding of the sorority's house on campus, where she fittingly funded the kitchen, but true to form, didn't want recognition. That was Anne. She didn't have a selfish bone in her body. After college, Anne worked in Houston before marrying Bill Stewart in 1976. She raised three adoring children, a more than full time job if you've spent even a small amount of time with any of them. Anne is survived by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Elizabeth, her two sons, James and John and her five grandchildren, David, Finn, Henry, Luke and Liam. She is preceded in death by her father, Donald, her mother, Virginia and her sister, Barbara.Anne will be sorely missed by her many close friends, particularly those who spent countless hours with her playing mah jongg. Her presence at that table will be missed; the taking of her opponent's quarters, will not. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 11th of October, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.A funeral service and celebration of Anne's life will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 12th of October, in the sanctuary of the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the Hall Life Center.A private family interment will be held at a later date at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in honor of Anne may be directed to the . Despite being in some discomfort the last few years of her life, Anne never lost her unwavering sense of humor, which she got from her father, and passed along to her children. A good laugh from Anne could bring down the house. We all will miss her laughter.
