CHEW, Alfred WilliamFuneral services for Alfred Chew, 84, of Giddings, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Uche Andeh and Father Jim Olnhausen officiating. Alfred William Chew was born on August 29, 1932 in Camden, New Jersey, the son of Alfred & Ella Mae (Taggart) Chew. He joined the United States Army in 1949 and was assigned as a Demolition Specialist and served in the Korean Conflict. After his return from Korea Alfred was Honorably Discharged from the US Army in 1952. In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) and was an Aircraft Crew Chief working on the F-84 Thunderjet, F-89 Scorpion, F-100 Super Sabre, F-101 Voodoo, and the F-4 Phantom II fighter aircraft. Alfred was assigned to locations overseas and in the US including Alaska, France, The United Kingdom, Libya, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Nevada. He served in the Vietnam conflict before his final assignment in the USAF. Alfred retired from the USAF at Nellis AFB, NV on February 1, 1973 as a Technical Sergeant. Alfred met his future wife in Austin Texas in 1957 and was united in marriage to Kiginia Muniz, his wife of 58 years on June 1, 1958 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Austin. Together they made a home and raised their family wherever he was assigned while in the USAF. After his retirement from the USAF, Alfred and Kay moved their family and established their home to Giddings Texas in 1973. He enjoyed time in his shop, woodworking, watching old western movies, reading and spending time with his family and friends. Alfred passed away the afternoon of Sunday, November 20, 2016 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Chew and Ella Mae Taggart, and two sisters, Shirley Marie Chew, and Pearl Anne Chew. Alfred is survived by his wife, Kiginia "Kay" Chew of Giddings; four children, Joseph W. Chew & his wife, Anitra of Auburn, Washington, Ken C. Chew & his wife, Paula of Giddings, Kurt D. Chew & his wife, Tracie of Austin, and Mary E. Pierce & her husband, Jewel of Giddings; ten grandchildren, Tiffany, Anna, Rebecca, Christina, Elena, Elisa, Nathan, Ashley, Seth and Heather; ten great grandchildren, Simone, Adrian, Hayley, Christopher, Derek, Isaiah, Madison, Olivia, Zander and Mia as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the St. Margaret's Catholic Church Building Fund, 485 South Leon Street, Giddings, Texas 78942 or to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486. Arrangements by Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
