Adolph "Al" Vincent Mangini, or as friends and family affectionately called him "Cuccie," a proud Veteran of World War II, died peacefully at the age of 91 on Pearl Harbor Day surrounded by family at his home in Lincoln, CA on December 7, 2016. Al was born on May 16, 1925 in San Mateo, CA to Levia and John Mangini. He grew up in his beloved South San Francisco and always left his heart there eventually moving to Foster City, CA in 1974 where he lived with his family for 20 years. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served with the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves), touring Italy, Belgium and Germany. After the war, he returned home and soon demonstrated the strong Italian work ethic he was so proud of by driving a bread truck. In 1960 he founded and operated Millbrae Furniture for over 30 years until his retirement. Family always came first and he displayed his love of family throughout his life. Shortly before Al passed, he recalled emotionally the support of his family and the help they gave him throughout his life. "That's the Italian heritage," he explained which is a cultural tradition of hard work and always taking care of family which was so important to him. This was especially evident in his last few months when he repeatedly told his loved ones, "Family is everything to me." Al felt honored and proud to raise two families. He could light up any room with his warmth and charm, he loved to laugh, tell a good joke or story and be with friends. He was passionate for politics, the Giants and 49ers, antique cars and his buddies in the Rods and Relics Car Club. He was a brave soldier, a successful businessman, a patient and loving father, a dedicated grandfather and great-grand-father who was always in the stands cheering for his grandkids. Al was also a loyal friend to many. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Sheila; his sons Bill (Gayle), Tom (Roxann); daughters Lynn (Mike), Lola (Mike), Kerri (Craig), Kelli (Chris); sister Lola; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren as well as 2 nephews and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife Gerry and daughter Lori. Al wanted to make sure his family expressed his gratitude for the great people with Sutter Hospice and caregiver Eunice Vulaca for their unending comfort and tireless dedication. Thank you for being there for all of us. In his final weeks, Al could often be heard saying "I've had such a long and great life and feel so blessed." His positive outlook and gratitude for a life well lived continues to give his family much comfort and peace in their time of sorrow. A Rosary and Burial service will take place on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights, CA and a Memorial Mass will be held the next day on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3159 Land Park Dr., Sacramento, CA followed by a Reception at the Dante Club, 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd, Sacramento CA.
