Going Home Celebration Honoring the Wonderful Life of Zola Mae Tennyson-Mckenzie
Zola Mae Tennyson-McKenzie, known as (Aunt Zo) was born in French Harbor, Roatan, Bay Islands of Honduras, C. A., on October 15th, 1932. She was the eldest of eight children to Mr. Horatio and Mrs. Eareal McKenzie.
Zola Mae married her late husband George Bonwell Tennyson, on October 15, 1958. They moved to Oak Ridge, Santos Guardiola and began their new life. Zola and George were married for 41 years.
Their union produce seven children: Franklin Delano, Hector Jürgen, Jessie Lee, Chalmer Ray, Marcia Ann, Everal Wade and Stacey Benson.
The scripture reading from Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake had forgiven you” is the scripture that best describes Aunt Zo! She was a God-fearing woman, loving, humble, caring, and respectful to others. She had strong family values and would do anything she could do for anyone without a second thought. She had the most brilliant and the sharpest of mind, even up to the last very few months of her life.
She would read her bible daily and her favorite scripture was psalm 23.
As Zola Mae became visually impaired in the last few years of her life, her brother Horatio Jr, bought her an Audio Bible and she would listen to her daily scriptures. Then she would hum one of her favorite hymns; then end it all in prayer. She amazingly memorized her Sunday school bible verses. She would compete in church recitals around the Island and would always take first place.
Zola Mae became a widow in 1999; then she moved to Miami, Florida, February 4th of 2000, where she lived with her daughter Marcia Ann who became her caretaker and did a fantastic job of taking care of her until the very end. She would eagerly look forward to the weekend visit from her brother Horatio (Bud) and his family on Sunday and they would reminisce on their childhood and growing up in McKenzie Point, French Harbor. Zola Mae would occasionally visit Los Angeles, California where she would be in care of her son Stacey and daughter Jessie Lee Franklin, who, also did a fantastic job in caring for her.
As the ole saying goes,” there is NO PLACE LIKE HOME \"; with that in mind Zola Mae would return to the Bay Islands where she would be entertained by her son Everal and granddaughter Colleen. Also, her son Ray Chalmer and his wife Lorna would care for her as well.
Zola Mae attended the Church of God, led by the late Elder Pastor Esau Brooks. She was loved and respected by her brethren’s, from her church, and very much loved by her family and friends.
She held fast to God\'s unchanging hands and fought a good fight winning the prize of a higher calling, at 12:07 AM on March 24, 2020 at North Shore’s hospital in Miami, Fla.
Zola obeyed her masters call and went peacefully and quietly to the mansion he had prepared for her. Her new residence is GLORY-LAND, where there’s no more sickness, suffering, sorrow, pain, or death.
Zola leaves to cherish her memories: brothers and their wives Nathan/ Rita, Martin/Consuelo, Calvin, and Horatio. Her children: Jessie Lee, Chalmer Ray/ Lorna, Marcia Ann, Everal Wade/Digna, and Stacey Benson. Brother/sister-in-law Sterlin/Patsy Tennyson and Caroline Tennyson (who was matchmaker for Zola and her late husband, George Tennyson).
Her grandchildren: Kimberlee, Lena, Michael, Ryan, Fabian, Audrey, Shebbie, Shabrina, Courtney, Colleen, Jeffries, Jalen and Jerrell. Also a host of great-grandchildren’s, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Zola Mae Tennyson-McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents Horatio and Eareal McKenzie, her husband George Bonwell Tennyson, two brothers Harrison and Melvin McKenzie and her sister Rosebella Pouchie-McKenzie and her husband Emmett Pouchie, her three sister in-laws Thelma, June, and Zula McKenzie and her two sons Franklin Delano, Hector Jürgen, her son-in-law Torras Franklin and grand-daughter Shenell Tennyson.
