William Theodore Vomocil was born on May 10th, 1936 in Yuma, AZ. He passed away on February 25th, 2016 in Sun City West, AZ due to a brain tumor and complications.Bill, as he was known to his friends and coworkers, was born and raised in Yuma and was a long time pillar of the community.He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1959 and earned his Master's degree from the University of Southern California in 1971.Bill married his wife Aleta, on July 9th, 1969.Bill served our nation through a distinguished career as a test engineer for the US Army, culminating with his appointment as Technical Director of Yuma Proving Ground in 1986. He was dedicated to excellence in every part of his job and never lost sight of the fact that he was working for the soldier. He ensured that every weapon system he and his team tested met stringent safety standards so that the soldiers in the field had the best possible equipment.He finished his career as a member of the Senior Executive Service, the highest rank available to civil service employees.Bill always loved the Arizona desert; no matter where he moved, he always came back. After retirement he studied desert botany and became a master gardener, learning to grow the plants that make Arizona so beautiful.He will be honored in a memorial service at 1pm on March 2nd, 2016. The service will be held at Crown of Life Lutheran Church at 13131 Spanish Garden Dr Sun City West, AZ.In lieu of flowers, Bill's family would like for donations to be made to the Imani Milele ministry, which operates schools and orphanages in Uganda. www.imanimilele.comHe is survived by his wife, Aleta Vomocil, who lives in Sun City West, AZ, his stepson Jeff Hanes, daughter-in-law Ceci, grandson Carlos and two granddaughters Danielle and Siobhan, who live in Fort Walton Beach, FL. His extended family includes nieces Susan Baltzer (husband: Don) and Sandy Haggard (husband: Darrel) and nephew Clayton Newberry.
