William Shaffer Sr.December 29, 1943 - December 11, 2016DoverWilliam H. Shaffer Sr., 72, passed away at York Hospital on Sunday, December 11, 2016. He was the loving husband of Irene A. (Wagner) Shaffer; together they shared over eight years of marriage.William was born on December 29, 1943 in Dover, the son of the late George and Fairy (Weir) Shaffer. He graduated from Dover High School Class of 1961. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army, where he was a chauffeur for a Colonel, and was then honorably discharged. He worked as the lead custodian of Dover Area School District for many years, before retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Spring Grove VFW Post #5265. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles, spending time outdoors, camping, and traveling, and was an avid Penn State fan, NASCAR fan, and was always a practical joker. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, William H. Shaffer Jr. and wife Deb of Mt. Wolf, Matt Shaffer of Dover, and Mark Shaffer and wife Lynn of Dover; daughter, Becky Klar and husband Donny Bloomer of Kansas; stepson, Brian Goodwin of York; stepdaughters, Teresa Glatfelter and husband Wayde of Dover and Laura Cesky and husband Scott of Dover; brothers, Ronald Shaffer and wife Linda, Dennis Shaffer and wife Sandy, and Colin Shaffer and wife Lynette; sisters, Barbara Holtzapple and husband Richard and Yvonne Snyder and husband Phillip; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and nieces and nephews.A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with Pastors Shawn Titus and Richard Hamlin officiating. The interment will be held privately by the family following cremation. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to The Keystone Warriors, P.O.
