Plummer, WilliamWilliam C. Plummer died peacefully with his family by his side on January 18, 2017 at Mercy Hospital. Bill was born on March 26, 1924 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Russell Plummer and Marie Gibson Plummer. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1942. He then spent 3 years in the Army Air Force, 8th Radar Operation in the European Theater during
WWII. Following the War, Bill attended Oshkosh Teacher College for 2 years. He married Shirley J. Paulson on June 4, 1949. He spent 45 years in the used car business and owned the Plummer Auto Sales on Jackson Street in Oshkosh. Bill loved the car business and being sure that customers were well cared for. While in the car business, he was the President of the Wisconsin Auto Dealers Used Car Association and was the on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Auto Dealers Association. Bill was also the first President of the Oshkosh Dealers Association in 1972-74. After retiring from the car business, Bill and Shirley spent the winters in Florida and traveling coast to coast visiting their children and grandchildren. His wife, Shirley died in November 1992. Several years later, he married Lucy Monroe. They continued to travel and visit families. Bill was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, now known as Most Blessed Sacrament. Over the years, he was an altar boy, Eucharistic Minister and Lifetime Member of the Ushers Club having served for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Noon Club and did extensive volunteer work for Red Cross, Mercy Hospital and Father Carr's Place 2B. He also did other volunteer work in Florida during the winter months. Bill is survived by his wife, Lucy and his children, Dr. Patricia (Martin) West of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, Michael (Sue) Plummer of Oshkosh, WI and Richard (Celeste) Plummer of Huntington Beach, CA and step-children Ben (Pam) Monroe of Rockton, IL, Bonnie (Tom) Mack of Waukesha, WI, William (Cathy) Monroe of Chicago, IL, Sue (Scott deceased) Monroe of Rockford, IL, Tim (Marilyn) Monroe of Rockford, IL, and Becky DuFoe of Oregon. Grandchildren include Elizabeth Miller, Eric Plummer, Julie West, Kathryn (Adam) Gaudino, Jennifer Plummer and Charlie Plummer as well as Dan Chadwick, Spencer Monroe, Zackary Monroe and Sowmya Monroe. And great-grandchildren Lisa and Zac Miller. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, St. Mary's site, 605 Merritt Ave. Oshkosh, 920-235-7412, on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Visitation will start at 10 am and a funeral Mass will be at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Father Carr's Place 2B, 1062 N.
