William "Bill" MatthewsAbilene, TXWilliam "Bill" Porter Matthews, 83, of Abilene passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:00AM. Entombment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home. Bill was born on May 27, 1933 to Charles White Matthews and Mary Ann Isabel Smith Matthews in Campbell, Missouri. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served many years of his life. When he retired, he worked as a printer. Bill met the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" Potter and married her in September of 1962. They later moved to Abilene. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and bowled for numerous leagues for 60 years. He also loved to travel with his family. Bill found joy in spending time with his puppy dog Rags. Bill is survived in death by his son, Charles Matthews; niece, Patricia and several loving friends. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and his dog Rags.
