Teiper, William E. "Bear" COLONIE William E. "Bear" Teiper, 73, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2016, following a long illness. He was born on December 2, 1942, son of the late Edward "Bud" and Dorothy (Legan) Teiper in Rochester. Bill attended Pittsford Central High School and later went on to study at S.U.N.Y. Brockport. He began his career in 1964, in the South Colonie School District at Lisha Kill Middle School, teaching seventh grade math. He continued as a math teacher at Sand Creek Middle School until his retirement in 1997. He also coached eight grade basketball at Sand Creek Middle School and was the scorekeeper for the Varsity and Junior Varsity basketball teams for many years. In addition to his teaching career, he was an avid golfer, an employee at the Town of Colonie Golf Course for over 40 years and the long-time coach of the Varsity golf team at Colonie High School. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a quick wit, love of puns and was the creator of "Bear's Puzzler" for the South Colonie Teachers Association newsletter. He was a lover of music, a model railroading enthusiast, a die-hard fan of Notre Dame Football, and a member of the American Contract Bridge League, attaining the rank of life master. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Anne; their children, Matthew "Cub" (Erica) Teiper, Christina (Stephen) Shuma; grandson, Ryan Teiper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Margaret (John) Young, Jody (Hansruedi) Born, Bruce Charbonneau; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Jane Charbonneau. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Bill's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for the kind and compassionate care given to Bill and his family during his illness. A gathering to celebrate Bill's life will be held on December 4 (square root of 16), from 1-4 p.m. in Martel's at the Town of Colonie Golf Course. Private services will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery.
