Walter Clarence "Court" Courtright, died Feb. 11, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. He was a longtime lab employee, business owner, and farmer.Court was born on June 7, 1928 in Beaver City, Neb. to Byron G. and Marie C. Courtright. He graduated from Beaver City High School in 1946 and the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree. Court was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leland Courtright.Court began his career in 1955 as a safety engineer with the AEC, transferring to LANL in 1960 where he worked in H-3 for 31 years in varying capacities including group leader. After his retirement in 1991, Court enjoyed farming in Neb. His proudest farming accomplishment was winning the National Sorghum Award for the highest yield in 2010.Court was active in the Los Alamos Jaycees and served as president of the Los Alamos Chapter. In 1958 he was elected president of the New Mexico State Jaycees. He was a member of the Los Alamos Heart Council, The American Society of Safety Engineers, Del Brazo investment club and served as the Los Alamos County Assessor in the 1960s. Court was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Los Alamos for over fifty years.Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary, son John (Geniece) Courtright, daughter Lynne (Rick) Johnson; grandchildren Amanda (Adrian), Riley (Kate) and Shelby Courtright, Ashley and Amber Johnson; great granddaughter Harper; sister and brother in-laws Ruth and Cliff Pratt and Adeline Ballou. Court had many nieces and nephews including Allyn (Nellie) Pratt and Stephanie (Garrett) Williams of Los Alamos. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on February, 20 at the First United Methodist Church in Los Alamos, 715 Diamond Drive. The family extends special gratitude to Court's caregivers Erna Foss, Skye McKenney and Amy Bowers.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Shelter, P.O.
